Fuel storage tank

2 Attachment(s)
I have a bead on getting this tank for FREE. Thinking about cleaning it up and using as a diesel tank.

Anyone have any experience with these types of tanks? I am thinking if cleaned up properly, and add a DC pump to it, that it would make a decent tanks.

Thoughts?

Depends highly on what 'solvent' refers to.

In this case it refers to bare metal.

It was used to hold parts cleaner at one point, but is COMPLETELY dry.

Have you worked out it's weight when full? Railway sleepers usually work well enough, but I'm happier with poured footings for hazardous stuff.

The real question is ... does anyone know how to remove the dye from heating oil? I've heard filtering it through cat litter, but somehow I don't see that working with 220g of No.2

I am really thinking a poured foundation with a 2 ft high 3inch cinder block wall would be the best approach.

It will store diesel, so not exactly hazardous, but would be a huge mess if it leaked.

Not to mention the associated clean up cost.

Add blue dye?

Standard 275 gallon oil tank. Good choice for diesel. Put it up on pipe stand in a shed, and gravity feed.

Yeah, You want a bund equal to or more than the capacity of the tank - not sure if that is code in your area but it stops it killing off the ground for years to come. IF it should leak, get shot, etc.
Plus, you get to keep your diesel. Fix the tank and pump it right back in.

You can remove the dye but it's a long, complicated process - and still leaves in the chemical markers that they use to detect it from your exhaust. And if done wrongly (very sensitive), you end up with a tank full of acidic fuel that will ruin your diesel pump in no time. Very common in Northern Ireland, so are replacement diesel pumps.

Re: Fuel storage tank

as TNANDY said put it on a stand and gravity it

tank should work great

be sure and use a good filter and water seperator on the outhose

filtering out dye??? LOL....if it was easy we would all do it......much easier to use a pony fuel tank on your vehicle with a electric switch over

set it someplace that if you do have a spill it doesnt go far and you can clean it up fast

i did assume by "fuel" you were talking about diesel

in our area "farm" tanks are ok (no permits required) up to 500g
